Bored?

Got 15 minutes to spare where your productivity can cruise?

Then listen to me discussing the bad, the bad and the ugly of the Herald on Sunday with Jose Barbosa on the BfM Sunday Breakfast.

Yeah, yeah, I should have posted this yesterday, but it turns out that I took a mental health day from work (Hi Glenda) and my apartment has no internet because it turns out that in 2009 it's still too difficult, after three weeks of waiting to get the line installed, for an ISP to consistently deliver broadband service without the line breaking again, oh sure, they blame Chorus, Telecom's line maintenance company, recently sprung from its disgusting parent like a hydra's head, and they're probably right, I wonder if the rubbish service they offer is anything to do with how they turned all their employees into independent contractors, "Hey, would you like to buy the van and tools that you use for work? No? Too bad."

  1. What is that hoary old perennial the right wingers like to drag out to justify the the sale of Telecom and the neo-liberal revolution in general?

"Before year zero (1984) New Zealand was run like a Polish shipyard and it took six weeks to get a phone installed!"

Now you can wait six weeks for your internet line to work... Plus ca change, plus c'est le meme chose.

Howver, unlike 1984, soon you'll be able to get a PREMIUM install with no four to six week wait for just an additional $99.95.

Such is the genius of the market.

  6. BT did the same thing over here in the UK. Absolute shambles. Everyone hides behind an SLA, so nothing gets done. My company sells business network connections, if something goes wrong, we call BT who call BT wholesale, who call another local telco who they've contracted services out to. Chinese whispers ensue. BT refuse to talk directly to customers and insist on us arranging engineer visits for their contractors' contractors.

    Welcome to the new world.

Oh and welcome back anonymous. Idiot.

  7. How boring do you have to be to spend your time reading a blog you don't like and listening to pod casts you find boring?

  11. "dunno, montyburns. find out and get back to me."

Why don't you start a blog and podcast Anon, and we'll do just that.

  12. Good FSM, how narcissistic do you have to be that you have to hijack the comments of another's blog to make it all about you?

Scout: I suspect our anon friend already has (or had) a blog on a Tory newsite.

Back on topic: Last time I moved, I was quoted three weeks to have my internet reconnected if I stayed with my then ISP Ihug. Since I chose to move to Xtra, the reconnect was effected within 24 hours. Strange that.

  13. erm, all i said was that james was boring. the rest of you turned the thread into something about me.

@mr mckibbin, i'm more likely to be apn than a former lover.

  17. Getting with a nut job.

James has a girlfriend, and she is lovely.

Yes, I'm done engaging with anonyomus. I suspect that other people have even less tolerance.

  18. Do you have to allow anonymous comments on here? Desperate trolling is taking over the site. It's pointless.

Anon has nothing to say. By making people sign in or use nicknames you might stop nuts like anon filling up all the posts with bullshit.

  19. Yeah, just read this and it's a bit depressing. Unfortunately, if I disallow anonymous comments then people complain about not being able to comment.

I've tried it in the past, and I might just try it again.

In answer to someone's question, it's a fortnightly spot. I haven't put it up regularly, but I think I'll do so from now on. Beats having to write a post....
